As a Yoga Teacher, I have always included a meditation at the end of my classes, and occasionally I would meditate for myself, often to find inspiration for creating new meditations for my students. I understand that teaching yoga also means embodying yoga. Thus, I too am on a journey of self-discovery. In the past, I dabbled in it, but now I am fully committed to living it.
How am I living it? I have created a list of intentions, and using these intentions, I aim to improve various areas of my life. One significant area I have focused on is establishing a daily meditation habit. It began as a 30-day meditation goal, extended to 100 days, and today, I have been meditating for 13 months. I must acknowledge that I am only human and have missed a few days along the way.
Why did I start this journey? It’s simple: I was encouraging everyone to meditate during my classes, but I wasn’t practicing it consistently myself. I documented my experiences after the 30-day and 100-day milestones.
Here is a summary of my 30-day blog: I shared my personal journey through a 30-day meditation challenge, exploring the transformative effects of daily practice. I discussed the initial struggles with consistency and distractions, but also the gradual improvements in mindfulness, clarity, and inner peace that emerged. The experience highlighted the importance of carving out moments of stillness in a busy life and how even brief daily meditations can foster a deeper connection with oneself and enhance overall well-being.
This is a summary of my 100-day journey: I reflected on the profound journey of completing a 100-day meditation challenge, emphasizing the commitment and growth experienced along the way. I delved into the challenges of maintaining a daily practice, the breakthroughs in mental clarity, and the deepened sense of calm and self-awareness that developed. The extended period allowed for a more profound exploration of meditation's benefits, demonstrating how consistent practice can significantly enhance mental and emotional well-being, ultimately
So, what can I add after 13 months, nearly 400 days of meditation? I feel more resilient, both mentally and emotionally. Now, don’t get me wrong—like everyone else, I still have a lot going on. However, I feel I am learning to handle things more easily. I notice my thoughts more frequently. I hear my inner chatter, but I can engage in a dialogue with myself to understand why those thoughts arise, and I am better at releasing and letting them go. I seem to be happier and more grateful for the small things in life—the crescent moon, a clear night sky full of stars, a beautiful sunset or sunrise (easier to spot in the winter!). A cuddle or message from a friend or client genuinely makes me smile; previously, if my phone beeped, I would feel stressed by the notification. I feel that I am kinder to myself. I know that if something is bothering me, it’s probably time to meditate. I have a few short meditations that I listen to. I also find that going for a walk without my phone, just letting the universe guide me, can be quite refreshing.
Meditation has now become a genuine and fulfilling habit. Throughout this journey, I have developed a keen interest in the Law of Attraction. I now run small classes to help people understand it better. We work on improving our spoken words and thoughts and how they influence our mind, body, and nervous system. We focus on wording our intentions, practicing gratitude, visualizing our intentions, and working on them daily.
Start small—even one intention is a great beginning. Consider aspects like your mind, body, soul, work-life balance, health, wealth, relationships, learning, challenges, releasing negative emotions, raising positive emotions, practicing gratitude, giving back, and discovering your purpose.
